Volunteers Make it Happen
Whether you volunteer for a couple of hours or a couple of days each month, you power our community programs and special art events. Our volunteers make Phoenix cultural arts and historic neighborhood communities come alive!
Your decision to be a part of Alwun House, volunteering your skills and time, is the foundation of Alwun House’s growth since 1971.
At a recent Volunteer Team Party, many were surprised to meet 30 volunteers that most had never met before (like newbies and different activities). We all enjoyed sharing stories and catching up on what our fellow creative types have been working on. Alwun House volunteer opportunities fit every level of interest and availability, including Event staffing, landscaping, pre-event preparation, gallery installation, decorations, art installation, and stage production, grant writing & office assistance.
Alwun House’s legacy includes so many “FIRSTS”
First Valley coffeehouse (with ‘Fiddler’s Dream”); Phoenix rave dance club; Reggae/Ska/Batucada African-Caribbean-South American arts festivals (8-10,000 revelers on Downtown rooftops and Wesley Bolin Plaza); award-winning youth and community arts projects (“Barrio Nana” the play); performance art venue; multi-media theatre productions (Alwun House, Phoenix Theatre, Valley Art); first professional gallery exposure for many of today’s “established” successful artists; Alwun’s two-decade-old and critically successful Exotic Art Show; first and only arts center with sculptured fountains and healing gardens surrounding verdant patios and stage. True to its trademark name, “all arts, all in one place, Alwun House.”
Your membership secures your legacy, as we wisely contribute to the downtown Phoenix arts community, while uniquely serving our culturally diverse Garfield Historic District neighborhood, ‘home’ of today’s hot art scene. The most notable recent community-wide Alwun House accomplishment was our successful leadership in forging artists and community resistance to a Downtown Cardinal Stadium, where today, Roosevelt Row flourishes; as acknowledged by Attorney General Terry Goddard and Councilman Michael Johnson.
